That's pretty much it for the list so far.

September 12th, 2009Site rebuild
OK. So, I reverted back to where I began. Things really didn't work out, I had issues rebuilding the forum and then had some issues re-instating the database. And there are now some personal problems I'm sorting through. So, we'll have to live with the old stuff for a bit longer. We'll see when I'm stable enough to properly do the rebuild.

Again, sorry for the wait. There were issues with reinstating the database. Namely, the server kept locking me out. There was absolutely nothing I could do about it except wait for the lock to end.

September 8th, 2009Rebuild time details and expected timeline
Well, it is currently 3:48AM on the 8th of September which means that the HV rebuild will commence later today. As such, I thought it would be fitting to post an announcement of the planned start time and planned down-times. Understand that this is a VERY rough draft consisting of estimates. Times may change, and changes in times will be updated in this post. All estimates are current as of the last modified time of this post.

Sept. 8th, Noon: Rebuild begins with a locking of posting on the forum (and a few other functions) for database optimization and backup. The forum will then begin to be rebuilt. Once the bare-bones installation is complete, any database modifications that need to be made will be done and the forum will be unlocked once again. This process is expected to take until this evening.

Sept. 8th, 5:00PM: Forum will have been rebuilt and the database restored.

Sept. 9th, 9:00AM: Today will be dedicated toward tighter integration and restoration of the homepage. The plan is to add in the comic updates into the news feed already implemented. There are some unused features that need to be removed to remove extra load and bloat. There are also a lot of unseen back-end modifications I would like to make. During this process, I am also expecting the homepage to gain a new look (Finally).

Sept. 9th, 5:00PM: Homepage should be back online and fully operational.

Sept. 10th, 9:00AM: This will be dedicated to a revamp of the new comic section. With the tighter integration of the homepage and the comic section as well as a generally tighter feeling altogether, I want to pull the comic section just a bit closer into the central HV systems. I have not fully worked out how exactly it will work, but I shall figure it out beforehand. Also, Aurora may have noticed the extremely simple administration front-end that is currently implemented and the accompanying simple back-end. I would like to revamp that a little and run some extra optimization on the code there.

Sept. 10th, 5:00PM: The comic section will be back online and more kick-* than ever (though you guys as users will not notice the differences, they will be there).

Sept 11th: This is currently just reserved as an overflow day. Anything that does not get done on time and gets pushed back will happen on this day.

Again, this is a very rough time-line and is subject to change. The only reason I am posting this is so that what few users we have are aware of when things will be inaccessible and when they are expected to resume normal functionality.

In the very least, updates will be posted to the homepage, and even while the homepage is under construction on the 9th, there will still be at LEAST a simple page with the semi-current status.

September 6th, 2009September 8th Rebuild - Member suggestions
Since we are planning a massive overhaul anyway, I was thinking. I have decided that rather than have Hero and myself decide everything, we would accept member ideas and suggestions.

If there are any skins you would like to see available after the rebuild (be sure they are phpBB3 skins), PM me a link.

If you have ideas of something that we need, PM me and tell me about it.

I can not guarantee that everything sent will be included, however I will do my best to be sure that when we return full force after the rebuild, that we have as much of the forum customized with what our members think we need.

August 31st, 2009Forum rebuild: September 8th - September 11th, 2009
As I have been keeping busy maintaining the behemoth of code that is the HV forums, I have noticed increasingly frequent errors being produced simply by degrading code. As time goes on and I update and alter and tweak the forum code, the code degrades and more and more red-flag functions pop up (functions that introduce fail-points). As such, it has come time to take steps to reduce this degradation.

Beginning sometime in the late afternoon/evening of September 8th, 2009, I will be beginning the rebuild process. I am unsure of how long it will take, however I have allotted from the 8th until the 11th. Further delays of schedule will be made available as things come up. Furthermore, expect periodic downtime and incomplete forum features during this timeframe.

This is a controlled drop, which means there will be no data loss, and all user settings should remain intact.

Thank you,
Kumori Kaunto,
HV Lead Tech
